Special Drone Show Part of Winter Wonderland at The Beach Festivities
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—While recent sightings of unexplained drones have puzzled and concerned many across the United States, the aerial activity happening over Myrtle Beach this Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, comes with a jolly explanation.
No need for public reports to local officials of possible UFO sightings, these colorful drones twinkling over the night sky will be part of Winter Wonderland at The Beach, the holiday festivities in downtown Myrtle Beach running through Jan. 4, 2025.
The first-ever Holiday Drone Show will dazzle spectators above the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk at Plyler Park from 6 to 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. This mesmerizing display will feature 100 illuminated drones choreographed to create dynamic holiday images, all courtesy of Visit Myrtle Beach and Sky Elements, a leading aerial entertainment company.
According to Sky Element officials, their drone light shows are designed to be both safe and eco-friendly. Powered by solar generators and operated by trained professionals, they offer a modern twist to traditional fireworks, lighting up the sky without the “bang.” For everyone’s safety, the beach area in front of Plyler Park will be restricted while the drones are in the air.
For those concerned about the weather, forecasts predict clear skies and low winds over Myrtle Beach on Saturday evening, ensuring optimal viewing conditions for the event. In order to fly the drones, sustained winds must be less than 20 mph and wind gusts must be less than 30 mph. Clouds must be greater than 1,000 feet above ground level and visibility greater than three statute miles. The Winter Wonderland at The Beach Facebook page will share any event changes.
Following the drone spectacle, DJ T-Rex will keep the energy soaring with a dance party in Plyler Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Additional Winter Wonderland at the Beach events include weekend DJ dance parties at Plyler Park, a live performance of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” on Dec. 22 and a New Year’s Eve fireworks show over the Atlantic.
